Increased enforcement of the Neighborhood Nuisance Law

September 28, 2011

By now, many of you are aware of the Neighborhood Nuisance Law or have at least heard about it. If you want to know a little bit more about the law specifically, you can check out my website page.

What you need to know right now is that they are ready to start using it. I just met with Baltimore City’s Northern District Community Liaison officer Doug Gibson. Officer Gibson showed me a list of student related addresses that have already received police complaints. According to Officer Gibson, if an address has already received one complaint for a noise violation, the next one will result in a fine. $500 for the first offense, $1000 for the second.

In short, if you have been visited by the police department already this year, your next visit will result in a fine. It is not completely clear to me whether they intend to fine all parties involved (occupants and land owners) or just the land owners.

That is fantastic news! I appreciate having college kids as neighbors, for the most part, but damn those parties can be late and loud! Glad to see some potential with this info.

Remember, you can call 410-516-4600 to report a student related issue. I’m on duty every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 8pm-4am to handle these issues. My response time is usually under 5 minutes. Check out my “about” page for more information!
